For many, learning about corn, beans, and squash—commonly called the Three Sisters by Haudenausaunee speakers—is a common experience in school. But there's a more nuanced story at play, one that is often sanitized and left out: one of food sovereignty, land dispossession, and land back. Join the Aquinnah Cultural Center team to learn more about what food sovereignty on Nôepe (Martha's Vineyard) means for the Wampanoag community and how access to growing our food has been limited over time. We'll spend time in one of the garden spaces where our team is leading an effort to expand food production and teach cultural knowledge while sharing this effort and its meaning to our community.
