CANCELLED: Cover Cropping for Soil Health

This presentation will discuss the characteristics of healthy soil and the principles of maintaining soil health, highlighting agricultural practices that harm soil health. It will focus especially on the agroecological benefits of cover crops, as the backbone of sustainable farming and soil health, and their management, including species selection, termination strategies, and decomposition of their residues.

About Dr. Hashemi: Dr. Masoud Hashemi is an extension professor at the Stockbridge School of Agriculture, University of Massachusetts Amherst. His research activity is mainly focused on the sustainability of farming systems through diversified cropping systems with an emphasis on integrating cover crops into production agriculture to improve general soil health. Dr. Hashemi also is an expert on pasture/grazing management and minimizing the impact of animal operations on the environment.
