$0.00

Name of Club: The Wildlife Explorers

Club Dates and Meeting Locations: Third Saturday of every month from 10:30 AM to noon: February 15th, March 15th, April 19th, May 17th. The May meeting will take place from 7:45 to 9:15 PM to study nocturnal animals. The drop off and pick-up location is BiodiversityWorks' office in Vineyard Haven, and all activities will take place on the BiodiversityWorks’ property or the surrounding trail system.

Cost: All 4-H clubs will cost $40 for the year (September 2024 to August 2025). New members can pay the 4-H fee by check or online during the official 4-H enrollment process later this month. This fee is waived for all families receiving SNAP/HIP benefits.

Enrollment: The enrollment process requires filling out a long set of forms sent via email. These forms MUST be completed before participating in any 4-H activities and then repeated annually every October on 4HOnline.

Description: Join the Wildlife Explorers to learn about local wildlife and how researchers study them! Working with staff from BiodiversityWorks, club members will be introduced to the field of wildlife biology, using common wildlife field techniques to gain hands-on experiences in the field and interacting with wildlife. Activities include mammal tracking, camera trapping, checking live turtle traps, radio telemetry scavenger hunts, bat mist netting, bird watching and much more.

**We will be taking the explorers out on trails and examining nature along the edges of trails. These activities will expose them to ticks and possibly poison ivy.

NOTE: To ensure that all interested kids have a chance to be a part of 4-H, at this time, each child may only join one 4-H club.
